Does Dadblock see my passwords or emails?
Absolutely not. Dadblock operates with zero user accounts and zero tracking. Furthermore, our built-in Local Redactor strips out sensitive information—like email addresses, credit cards, phone numbers, and SSNs—directly in your browser before any text is ever analyzed by the AI. Your private data never leaves your machine.
Is Dadblock really free? What's the catch?
Yes, it is 100% free. We keep our infrastructure costs near zero by running our AI models locally on your device whenever possible, and by utilizing highly efficient edge routing for our Cloud Engine. For developers and power users who want zero rate-limits, you can visit "The Engine Room" in the settings to securely plug in your own Groq API key.
Can Dadblock replace my current ad blocker?
Yes. Beyond standard DNS-level network rules, Dadblock is engineered with an advanced cosmetic filtering engine. It actively hunts and shatters transparent "invisible wall" overlays and pop-under traps used by aggressive streaming sites. You can run it solo as your daily driver, or alongside traditional blockers if you prefer maximum redundancy.
Will real-time AI scanning slow down my browser?
No. The extension uses asynchronous DOM extraction, meaning it yields to the main thread so your pages load at full speed. Additionally, all UI alerts and threat banners are generated inside an isolated, closed Shadow DOM that the page's own JavaScript cannot access or tamper with. This ensures rendering is instant and prevents malicious sites from manipulating Dad's warnings.
Why does the "Strict Offline" engine say "Not Available"?
The Strict Offline engine relies on Chrome's built-in on-device AI (Gemini Nano), accessed through Chrome's experimental Prompt API. It's currently Chrome-only — Microsoft Edge is developing its own on-device AI API, but it's still in early developer preview and not yet available to most users. If Strict Offline isn't available on your browser or device, Dadblock automatically falls back to our secure Hybrid Cloud Engine, which works identically on both Chrome and Edge, so you stay fully protected either way.
What if Dad blocks a website that I know is safe?
Dad listens to you. If a trusted site is flagged, just click the warning banner to open the dismissal interface. From there, you can tell Dad to stand down for 24 hours, whitelist that specific page, or permanently approve the entire domain so he never scans it again.
